"95pts - James Suckling A very striking gruner veltliner that’s seriously introverted, offering so much herbal and licorice character, but almost no fruit. The power is underplayed, the body restrained and the salty finish is still tightly wound. Great aging potential here. Drink or hold.
95pts - Falstaff Light yellow-green, silver reflections. Ripe yellow apple, subtle honeydew melon notes, candied orange zest with a hint of blossom honey underneath. Complex, juicy, silky texture, fine acidity, pronounced juicy tropical fruit finish, mineral and well balanced. Certainly has potential.
94pts - Wine Advocate From calcareous soils with amphibolite, the 2019 Ried Liebenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is very clear and fine on the complex and refreshing nose, with ripe pineapple and lemon aromas. Dense and juicy on the palate, this is a dense, juicy and beautifully piquant but very ripe and lush Veltliner with a highly aromatic finish yet also this remarkably fresh acidity. Stimulatingly salty on the aftertaste. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021."
